UNT Percussion Coordinator, Mark Ford, presented concerts and clinics in Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia
Beginning the second week of May, Mark Ford and his wife Ewelina, set off for a 5-week tour of Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia. The first stop along the tour was Kanazawa, Japan where Mark performed his marimba trio concerto, Stubernic Fantasy with the Yugakkan Band under the direction of UNT alum, Naoki Oshima. Along with Mark, the additional two players on the Stubernic Fantasy performance were UNT alum Hiromi Kamiya and Yuui Inase. Mark also presented a clinic in Tokyo at the Toho Gauken Conservatory of Music and performed an improvisation with marimba virtuoso Keiko Abe. Finishing out the Japanese portion of the tour, Mark taught two master classes and performed a recital coordinated by Dynasty Japan in Tokyo.
The next stop for Mark and Ewelina was Shenyang, China. Here, Mark presented a percussion clinic for students at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music and also performed a marimba recital. In addition to his stop at the Shenyang Conservatory, Mark presented a clinic at the Beijing Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. While in Shanghai he gave a concert for the PAS China Chapter and a master class.
Moving to Taiwan, Mark was honored to be part of the Taiwan International Percussion Conference (TIPC) hosted by the Ju Foundation. Performers from over 14 countries participated in concerts all over Taiwan. Mark performed in Taipei’s beautiful National Concert Hall and also a concert in the city of Kaohsiung. As a Percussive Arts Society Past President, Mark also spoke at the opening press conference for the TIPC.
The final stop along this tour was in Australia where Mark presented a series of clinics, lessons and master classes at the Melbourne Conservatory of Music hosted by Peter Neville; The Australian National University in Canberra hosted by UNT alum Gary France; and the Sydney Conservatory of Music hosted by Daryl Pratt.
