The Pride of the Dutchmen Drumline
The drumline at MOC-Floyd Valley is organized as a portion of the high school marching band (The Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band). There are currently 26 percussion students enrolled in the band program of which 18 are marching in the drumline and 7 perform in the front ensemble and 1 is a member of the visual ensemble.
Auditions for drumline are held at the end of May each year with formal rehearsals beginning around August 1. Students may audition for any or every instrument that they want to play. Students are placed according to ability and ensemble considerations.
Performances – In addition to performing as a portion of the marching band, the drumline performs at various functions and events through the schools and the communities including a series of 5 performances in front of thousands of spectators at the Orange City Tulip Festival in May.
Instruction – There are NO specialized percussion instructors or drumline instructors in the MOC-Floyd Valley school system. This necessitates a great deal of self motivation on the part of individual members. The drumline is instructed through a combination of former students, current students, outside percussion specialists and the high school marching band director.
