Western New Mexico University and Dynasty USA endorser James Carey will be hosting a Day of Percussion on Saturday April 14th on the  campus in Silver City New Mexico. The day will feature many artists that will entertain and educate throughout the day. One of the featured performers and educators will be Dynasty USA Artist Mark Ford from the University of North Texas.Drumming and percussion enthusiasts will be treated to a full day of clinics and performances in the Parotti Hall on the campus in Silver City.

The event is free and several door prizes will be distributed during the evening concert.
The day will begin with registration from 9 a.m. and then, at 9:55 a.m., the day with kick off with opening comments Prof. Jim Carey, Director of Percussion Studies.
From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Bob Breithaupt will present “The History of the Drum Set.” Breithaupt is considered one of the nation's leaders in percussion education. He is a professor of music and department chair of the Music Business and Industry Studies program at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
There will be a brief break for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. At 1:00 p.m., Manny Flores of El Paso will present a Brazilian hand percussion clinic. Flores, a bassist and percussionist teaches instrumental music at Riverside High School in El Paso, TX. Over the years, Flores has studied in Brazil to fulfill a lifelong desire to experience Brasilian music firsthand and to meet some of his favorite musicans such as Hermeto Pascoal.
Beginning at 2:00 p.m., Bob Bonora will present a Las Vegas show percussion clinic. He is the coordinator of Percussion and Drum Set Studies at the Community College of Southern Nevada. He has performed with Wayne Newton, Alicia Keys, Vanessa Williams, Lyle Lovett, Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and Placido Domingo. His clinic will include excerpts of performing shows such as Penn and Teller, Mama Mia and his current engagement with The Producers.


At 3:00, Dr. Chris Hanning will be on hand to present a clinic on Island Grooves for the drum set. Dr. Hanning is the director of percussion studies at West Chester University in West Chester, Pa. This clinic will demonstrate styles including Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Shango and more.
Mark Ford, Percussion Department Chair at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, will give a marimba percussion clinic beginning at 4:00 p.m. Mr. Ford is a marimba specialist and the director of one of the largest percussion programs in the United States at UNT. Ford has been recognized as a leading percussion educator and his university percussion ensembles have won national honors from the Percussive Arts Society.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the event will conclude with a concert featuring Mark Ford, Manny Flores, Bob Bonora, Chris Hanning and the WNMU “Rio Pan” Steel Drum Band.
