Mickey Ratliff is currently Director of Bands at Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, IN, where he previously had been Assistant Director of Bands. His current duties include directing the WCHS Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. Other duties include assisting with the Concert Band and four middle-school bands, teaching Music Theory, and serving as Department Head of Instrumental Music. In the past twenty years, he has served as an educator, clinician, and adjudicator in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Indiana. He teaches private percussion lessons through Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake, IN and is a freelance performer and private teacher.

Since 1993, Mr. Ratliff has been the director, writer, and arranger of the WCHS Percussion Ensemble. Under his direction, the WCHS Ensemble has received a number awards and recognitions - including the Bands of America National Indoor Marching Percussion Championship (’93, 94', and 95')

IPA Concert Class State Finals - 2nd Place (’00), IPA World Concert Class State Finals - 2nd Place (’02 and ’04), IPA Concert Class State Finals - 3rd Place (’99), and IPA World Concert Class State Finals – 3rd Place (’99 and ’03). In 2005, the WCHS Percussion Ensemble received a Bronze Medal in the WGI Percussion Scholastic World Concert Class World Finals and also was a WGI Percussion Scholastic World Concert Class World Finalist in 2001 and 2002 (placing 6th both years). The Ensemble has performed and presented clinics in several states – including Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Wisconsin - performed with the Morehead State University Percussion Ensemble (’94) and the Britain/ Moore Duo (’04), and has appeared on a nationally-syndicated children’s television show. Some of Mr. Ratliff’s former students have gone on to perform with top twelve DCI Drum Corps, BLAST, and at universities with prestigious music schools. Some have become educators and performers themselves.

Mr. Ratliff received his Bachelors of Music Education (’91) and Masters of Music Performance (’98) from Morehead State University, where he studied percussion with Frank Oddis and conducting with Dr. Richard Miles. While at Morehead, Mr. Ratliff worked as a freelance writer/ arranger and instructor for several area drumlines and was active as a performer, arranger, and instructor for the award-winning MSU Drumline and Percussion Ensembles – including the 1988 and 1992 Percussive Arts Society International Convention Indoor Championship Drumlines. Recently, he performed with the MSU Percussion Ensemble at the 2003 PASIC in Louisville, KY.

Mr. Ratliff continues to perform on drumset, timpani, mallets, and other percussion with the Grace Community Wind Ensemble, Manchester College Symphonic Band, Warsaw Community Choir, local church ensembles and Praise Bands, musicals, rock bands such as “Joe’s Garage” and “The Interns”, and practically anyone that asks him.

Mr. Ratliff endorses Vic Firth sticks .and Dynasty Percussion. He currently resides in Warsaw, IN with his wife Dianne, their sons Dylan (17) and Lennon (10) and their wiener-dog, “Tipper” (3).
