04.05.2005 // Ledford Indoor Percussion Ensemble takes SILVER medal at 2005 AIA Circuit Championships

The Ledford Indoor Percussion Ensemble traveled to Richmond, VA this past weekend to compete in the 2005 Atlantic Indoor Association percussion championships. In preliminary competition on Saturday, the group finished third out of 15 ensembles in the Percussion Scholastic A2 classification (PSA2-Local) with a score of 81.45. The top eight scoring ensembles in the class moved on to compete in finals competition on Sunday. After a great morning rehearsal, the group had their most outstanding performance of the season. The group jumped a spot in finals, thus capturing a silver medal, placing second overall in the class with a score of 83.4. What an outstanding weekend! I am very proud of all the hard work and efforts our students have put into making this ensemble such a success over the past three months. Their dedication and determination was handsomely rewarded this weekend at championships.

I would like to thank the following individuals for making this season such a huge success. Without your assistance this indoor production would not have been possible: Mike Howell, Band Director, Keith Bean, Band Booster President, Laura & Daniel Rogers, Uniforms and videotaping throughout the season From an instructional and design standpoint many thanks go out to: Loryn Smith, Prop and Set Design, Josh Nelson, visual design, Dave Marvin, music arrangements, Alicia Bray, Front Ensemble instruction, Bill Watkins, visual instruction. Also special thanks to Tim Bray, Director of the Virginia Helmsmen and Tunstall Concert Ensembles for his assistance in helping us prepare for championships during our final rehearsals. To all of the parents and friends that have supported us this year with your time and financial contributions to the group I say thank you as well! You should be very proud of what this great group of students has accomplished. The ensemble will be performing one last time this Saturday, April 9 at Tunstall High School near Danville, VA. Dinner will be served at Tunstall from 6:00 - 7:30 with performances by Ledford, the Virginia Helmsmen and the Tunstall Concert Ensemble to follow.
