06.14.2005 // Dynasty USA Mourns the Passing of a Great Friend and and Drum Corps Japan Leader

Dynasty USA is sad to announce the passing of Mr. Akira Kamei who was one of the great leaders of the Japanese drum corps and marching band movement. Mr. Kamei was born in 1945, graduated from Kagawa University and majored in economics. Mr. Kamei worked at Ajinomoto General Foods Corporation and Okayama City Hall. He had been elected as a city councilor since 1983 and he was a member Okayama Ujo Lions Club.

Mr. Kamei founded the Marching In Okayama Festival in 1988 and started Japan Drum Corps Championship sponsored by Dynasty Japan and USA in 1992 that had official judges that had judged in DCI from USA. At the time this was revolutionary and influential for Japanese marching contests. He also helped the Okinawan marching bands to become the center of Japanese excellence for school marching bands by sending these judges and he named "Marching In Okinawa" after Okayama, Japan which is also sponsored by Dynasty Japan. Mr. Kamei expressed the wonderful enthusiasm for the international exchange of marching bands and drums corps in cooperation with Dynasty Japan and Dynasty USA, inviting guests like San Jose Raiders Color Guard, Disney World, Epcot Future Corps, Micro Magic Drum & Bugle Corps, Blue Devils Drum Corps and many other individual and ensemble musicians many times. Mr. Kamei will always be remembered as a leader in Drum corps and Marching Band in Japan but most of all he will be remembered as a wonderful family Dynasty USA/Japan family member and above all a true friend.
