Discover Rene Conway



Rene holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Sam Houston State University, and was the Graduate Assistant and Marching Percussion Instructor for the University of Houston Cougar Marching Band. Rene's experience as a Marching Band and Percussion Instructor in the United States includes working with such groups as The Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps (1984), The United States Olympic Festival Marching Band (1986), and many High School and University groups. In 1991, Rene moved to Indonesia to work as the Percussion Instructor for Marching Band Sampoerna. In 1993, Rene moved to Bontang, East Kalimantan to serve as the Director of Marching Band Pupuk Kaltim. In 1994, Marching Band Pupuk Kaltim became the first band from outside of Jakarta to win the National Championships and they have held this top honor every year since then. Marching Band Pupuk Kaltim was recently awarded two of the highest honors in the International Marching Band Activity when an International Committee of University Music Professors and High School Band Directors in conjunction with the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) selected it as the 1998 winner of the Sudler Shield Award and Band of the Year for 2001. Rene is the Southeast Asian Representative and Clinician for Dynasty Percussion Instruments, and has conducted numerous Workshops and Clinics throughout Indonesia and Malaysia.
