Discover Blair Williams
Blair started his music training early, starting on the Clarinet in 6th grade. He joined the drumline in middle school, playing snare and tenors. In high school, he was member of all the performing groups which included the marching band, concert band, jazz band, and percussion ensemble, as well drumming in a Tahitian group off and on throughout high school. He received the John Phillip Souza Award as a high school senior. Blair graduated from CSU Stanislaus in 2007 with a BM degree in Music Education, and was part of a small ensemble that went to Europe in 2005 for a two week tour.
He performed with the Sacramento Freelancers Winter percussion ensemble from 1998-2002, and 2004. He was a bass drummer for two years, and a snare drummer for the remaining 4 years. Blair was a member of the Sacramento Mandarins snare line in the 2000 and 2001, when they won the DCI Championship for Div. 2, and the Concord Blue Devils snare line in 2002, and 2003, where he placed 4th in the snare drum individuals, as well as helping the corps to win its 11th DCI Div. 1 title. He also was part of the 50 member Blue Devil cast that went to Japan in 2003 for the Okayama marching festival. Blair has been a member of the Mandarins percussion staff since 2004 as a battery instructor.
He has worked with various percussion lines as a battery tech, pit tech, arranger, and caption head. Some his programs include: Hamilton Middle School, Stagg High School, Fairfield High School, Davis High School, East Union High School, Johansen High School, Ceres High School, and Central Valley High School. Blair is currently teaching at Los Banos High School and Enochs High School, where he is the Caption Head, and he was also formerly the interim Band Director at Modesto High School in the fall of 2007.
