Discover Roger Behrend



     Roger L. Behrend is an internationally-recognized euphonium soloist, recitalist, teacher, and clinician. A native of the Washington, DC area, he was raised in Fairfax, Virginia and began his formal musical studies in fourth grade.



     Attending Michigan State University, Mr. Behrend studied with Dr. Leonard Falcone, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. He earned his Master’s Degree in Euphonium Performance from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.



     Mr. Behrend is currently the euphonium soloist and principal euphonium with the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC. In this capacity, he has appeared as a featured soloist throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Additionally, he is a founding member and the chief-in-charge of the United States Navy Tuba-Euphonium Quartet. Having been established for over nineteen years, this ensemble is considered the benchmark standard of low brass quartets. Prior to assuming his present position, Mr. Behrend was a member of the United States Coast Guard Band in New London, Connecticut.



     A strong proponent of the euphonium, Roger Behrend has commissioned and premiered over twenty-five works for the instrument. His five compact discs, highlight the euphonium in various genres. He has served as euphonium coordinator of the Tubist Universal Brotherhood Association (T.U.B.A.), presently The International Tuba and Euphonium Association (ITEA). Additionally he has authored articles in musical publications such as The T.U.B.A. Journal and The Instrumentalist and BD Guide.



     Roger Behrend also maintains an active private lesson studio, teaching students from the Washington, DC area. He is euphonium and tuba professor at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.
